The district of La Macarena is one of the eleven comprising Seville. But it is much more. It is one of most charming neighborhoods of the city and makes Seville a special place.

In La Macarena is the northern entrance to the city. In fact, its door is the best preserved in the city, as its walls stretch. These come from the time of Julius Caesar, though the current gate (or Arch) is a reworking of the eighteenth century.

Next to the Arch of Macarena is the Basilica of Santa Maria de la Esperanza Macarena. At Easter takes place the Penance of the Madrugá of Good Friday, a spectacular moment in Seville.
